What is a remote repository?

I've prepared a video for you to watch the whole process, from signing up to creating a new repository on GitHub. It only took 2 minutes for the entire process.

Creating a repository on GitHub

Once you have created a new repository, copy its HTTPS URL, which can be found on the main page of your GitHub repository. Here's an example:

Task

Create a new repository on GitHub, copy its URL, and paste it in the input below. Make sure that the HTTPS option is selected, not SSH.

Congratulations! You've just created your first GitHub repository. On the next page, we'll see how to set up your local repository to work with this new remote one.

Hi! I'm Alex, creator of GitByBit.

This page is a part of the interactive course about Git version control.

It's a one-of-a-kind course that is integrated into the VS Code code editor. Learning directly in VS Code lets you operate Git exactly as you would in real life, doing real jobs, writing real code.

In addition, the course has access to your actual terminal, so it can point out mistakes, suggest workarounds, etc.

The course is FREE, there are no Ads or other bullshit. There are optional premium add-ons you can purchase, mainly to support my work (regrettably, I have to eat every day), but that's totally up to you.
